“Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” That’s on the front window.
“Forget love. I’d rather fall in chocolate.” That’s on the wall inside. It’s like they are speaking directly to me!
I first stumbled across LuxBite via a tweet from Callum’s Kitchen which I think was actually a re-tweet from Huxtable Restaurant! Upon further investigation I discovered that they were a dessert cafe and not only did they do cakes, but they did macarons. People who love macarons will know there aren’t that many places to get good ones in Melbourne and now there is a place within a 10 min walk of me, AND they are open at night. Woo! No longer will I have to send D on missions to EARL Canteen to get me some salted caramel macarons!
Needless to say, D and I have been to LuxBite on far too many occasions to mention since it has opened. We are slowly working our way through the collection of macarons on offer. So far we have tried:
- Salted caramel
- White choc and raspberry
- Pina colada
- Rose and lychee
- Choc cherry
- Kaya toast (their signature macaron)
- Watermelon yoghurt
- Mont Blanc
- Ferrero Rocher (special flavour they had just for Christmas)
Some of the macarons have been better than others, but, hands down, our favourite flavour has been the Ferrero Rocher, with the white choc and raspberry coming in second for me.
Other things we have tried on our visits include the Ferrero Rocher St Honore, gingerbread cake, Christmas trifle, banoffee tart and raspberry tart. The times we’ve stayed in for a drink we’ve had green tea which comes in super cute tea bags and lovely tea pots. The owners, Bernard and Yen are very friendly and always up for a chat.
I can highly recommend this place – even if it is causing havoc with my never-ending quest to try and run a marathon 🙂
